How we work
A CALL FOR HELP
People in need are referred to the Clearinghouse call-in center by churches and service agencies in the community. The requests for assistance range from basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter, to financial help with the rent, a utility bill or a car repair, to long-term solutions to help families move forward.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION & REFERRALS
The Clearinghouse volunteers listen carefully to each caller, sharing the Love of Christ over the phone. Together, they clarify the request and link each caller to the appropriate community resources to help with their immediate needs and long-term goals.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Families facing a temporary financial crisis may qualify for financial assistance. Callers are requested to email or fax required documents and to participate in a budget counseling session. Payments are made directly to the landlord, a utility company or a car repair garage.
FOLLOW-UP
The Clearinghouse volunteers follow up with callers to see how they are doing weeks or months after our help. Additional community referrals are offered and long-term solutions are discussed.
